Art Time
Children love getting their hands dirty and so do we! We love art time at Busy Bee for several reasons, and maybe even more than the kids sometimes!
Reason #1: Creative Process
Art time allows children to experience the creative process of producing a finished product from start to finish. They are led through verbal and visual instructions and are free to experience each step along the way. This is a great way for them to see something being created from scratch and to be a part of the process.
Reason #2: Gross Motor Skills
During art time, we ensure our projects utilize different gross motor skills so that children can continue to learn while doing something fun. Finger painting, cutting, pasting, colouring and shaping are some ways children use their gross motor skills while making arts and crafts.
Reason #3: Focus and Concentration
Another great reason for art time is the focus and concentration the children will exert during this time. As the teachers are instructing them, children will naturally learn to focus on their task at hand all while enjoying using the colourful and interesting materials.
Reason #4: Visual Learning
Children who enjoy visually learning about the world and their environment will love art time! Not only do we create colourful projects and use colours and different art supplies to create interesting pieces, we also encourage children to choose their own colours when they can.
Reason #5: Self-Expression
We highly encourage and facilitate self-expression while doing arts and crafts. Children are asked what colours or shapes they may like to use and where possible, we always ask them for their preference. We believe this helps them become more assertive in expressing their wants and needs.
Reason #6: Fun!
Art time is just plain fun! Being able to create your own piece of art is stimulating and exciting especially when they are able to show their family members what they have created. Art time is a great way to foster self-confidence and self-esteem at an early age.
We highly recommend art time at home as well to continue the fun for children at home. Here’s a fun and easy DIY craft you can do with your child at home.
DIY: Thumbprint Pineapple
You will need different colours of paint and a white canvas or thick white art paper.
Use thumbprints to create a pineapple. You can swirl the paint to create new colour combinations and when dry, hang up your fun pineapple on the wall.
Have a BEE-utiful day!
