It’s a no-brainer when it comes to encouraging your child creatively. We understand that children benefit greatly from experiencing the world through creative activities and sensory experiences. This aids in their cognitive development by also tapping into their problem solving areas of the brain. Besides that, it is also super fun to dabble in the arts! So when it comes to thinking up new ways to encourage creativity, it always helps to get fresh new ideas! Here are three tips to help you along the way!
Tip #1: Create a Playlist
Let your child play DJ and have them listen to different kinds of music. Let them choose their favourite tunes and have them create different playlists. These can be used at different times of the day, such as a “Good Morning” playlist to help start your day. They can also create a playlist for playtime, nap time and story time (think ambient sounds or nature sounds). The possibilities are endless! The important part is to allow your child to choose what they like to listen to.
Tip #2: Make a Creative Corner
Another important part about getting creative and doing different arts and crafts at home is to have a designated space for it. It can be a creative corner of a room or even an entire room dedicated to creating art! Have your child involved in the decorating of the room and get them in on the rearranging of furniture by asking them where they would like to put their little tables and chairs, etc. Creating a space together allows them to get excited for the upcoming projects they will get to create and gives them the space needed to do so.
Tip #3: Arts and Crafts
Now that you have a creative space, it’s time to GET creative! Have them try different art mediums such as paint, crayons, glitter glue, etc. to make art. You can also use regular household items in your creations such as toilet paper rolls and tissue boxes. A quick search online will help you get inspired for your next art project together! They will love getting their hands dirty in a good way and this will encourage them to explore the arts.
